I have been married for twenty-four years and have three children. While my children all attended public schools, I taught them all to read before entering public school and took an active part in their education during their school years. One child has graduated from college, another is presently attending college, and the youngest is a sophomore in a public high school.
I have always been interested in the home environment and the kinds of things parents can do to help their children develop and grow. A number of years ago, I was asked to evaluate some materials a home educating family was using. I became very interested in the family and learned of other families also educating totally at home. When choosing a topic for my dissertation during doctoral studies, it seemed a natural topic for further research.
It is my desire to do a follow-up study of the same students from my study in the future. It would be of interest, and hopefully add new insight regarding home education.
All families need positive support to be successful in the rearing of children. As a public school administrator, I strive to involve parents in the school and serve as a resource for parenting. It is my desire to see parents and children become as successful as possible.
